Section 03 – Comments

When you leave a comment on a Dingle article, we collect your name, email address, website URL (optional), comment content, IP address, and browser user agent string. This information is used solely to display your comment, detect spam, and manage follow up moderation.

An anonymised version of your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture. Gravatar’s own privacy policy governs that service and is available at automattic.com/privacy. If a profile picture is found, it is shown publicly alongside your approved comment.

We do not use your email address for marketing. We do not sell, share, or rent comment data to any third party beyond the spam detection service described in Section 07.


Section 04 – Media and Uploaded Images

This section applies to contributors and registered users who upload images to the site.

Please avoid uploading images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS coordinates). Dingle.in does not actively extract this data, but anyone can download images on public pages, along with any location information stored in the file. We recommend stripping EXIF data from images before uploading. Most modern smartphones and photo editing tools can do this automatically.


Section 05 – Cookies We Use

Dingle.in uses functional cookies only, cookies that are strictly necessary for the website to operate correctly. We do not use advertising cookies, cross site behavioural tracking, or any cookies that create a profile of you for commercial purposes.

Comment author preferences – If you opt in, saves your name, email, and website so you do not need to re-enter them on future comments. Duration: 1 year.

Browser acceptance test – Set on login page visits to confirm your browser accepts cookies. Contains no personal data. Duration: deleted when you close your browser.

Login session cookies – Set when you log in to maintain your session and screen display preferences. Selecting “Remember Me” extends persistence to two weeks. Duration: 2 days standard / 2 weeks with Remember Me.

Screen display options – Saves admin panel layout preferences for registered users. Duration: 1 year.

Article edit indicator – Set when an article is published or edited. Contains only the post ID, no personal data. Duration: 1 day.


Section 06 – Embedded Content From Other Websites

Some Dingle articles include embedded content such as videos, social media posts, or interactive elements hosted on third party platforms. When you interact with embedded content, it behaves exactly as if you had visited that external website directly.

These third party platforms may collect data about you, set their own cookies, and track your interactions, particularly if you are logged in to that platform at the time. Dingle.in has no control over the data practices of third party embed sources. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any platform whose embedded content you interact with.


Section 07 – Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell your personal data. Ever.

The only data sharing that takes place is:

Spam detection service – Visitor comments are checked through an automated spam filtering service. Only comment content and metadata (IP address, user agent) are passed for this purpose.

Password reset – If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the reset email as a standard security measure.

Gravatar – A hashed (anonymised) version of your email address may be sent to Gravatar to retrieve your profile picture. No readable email address is transmitted.


Section 08 – How Long We Keep Your Data

Comments and metadata are retained indefinitely so that we can recognise and automatically approve follow up comments. You may request deletion at any time under your rights below.

Registered user profiles are kept for as long as the account exists. Users can view, update, or delete their profile information from within their account at any time except for usernames, which cannot be changed. Site administrators can also view and edit this information.

Data we are legally required to retain for administrative, legal, or security reasons may not be fully erasable on request.


Section 09 – Your Rights Over Your Data

If you have left a comment or hold an account on Dingle.in, you have the following rights:

Right to access – Request an exported copy of all personal data we hold about you.

Right to erasure – Request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention obligations.
